How I do it...

First I check the text and any relevant translation aids I can use. These include any reference material received from customer, manufacturer's and related Web sites and my own resources including translation memories. Any questions and doubts regarding the content are sent to the customer once the working copy of the text is ready. If there is no time for this, I make my own choices and send comments along with the translation. In many cases this involves improvement of the source text.

Once the translation is completed, I put it aside for as long as possible to proofread it eventually before delivery. On every stage of work I keep a copy of working files on a portable hard drive. Finally, I read the document again for any errors that could slip through and run a spell check. If there is any checklist from the customer, I check and complete it, too. The finished product is a double checked translation, ready to be delivered to the final customer.
